Cartier

Cartier produced one of the earliest purpose-built men’s wristwatches in 1904, as a favor to a friend. Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont needed something he could read mid-flight. That watch, the Santos, is still in production and still instantly recognizable. The Tank followed in 1917, inspired by the geometry of military tanks. It has been worn by actors, artists, and royalty for over a century. That breadth of cultural reach, spanning generations of tastemakers, is the Cartier story. The brand sits at an unusual crossroads: serious watchmaking heritage, strong secondary market, and a design vocabulary that attracts buyers who’ve never read a watch forum.
