Jaeger-LeCoultre earned the title “the watchmaker’s watchmaker” the old-fashioned way. Founded in 1833 in the Vallée de Joux, the manufacture spent decades quietly supplying movements to Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin. The watches that built those reputations often had JLC calibres inside them. The Reverso, designed in 1931 for polo players who needed a dial that could flip to avoid impact, remains one of the most recognizable designs in watchmaking. Dozens of calibres have been developed for it since. The Master Control collection is built around testing standards that exceed industry certification, and trades on the secondary market at prices that consistently reward buyers who do their homework. The Polaris traces its lineage to the 1968 Memovox Polaris, a dive watch with a mechanical alarm that collectors still chase.
