WATCH PURSUIT
Finding the right timepiece...

Panerai spent decades making dive instruments for the Italian Navy and not much else. The civilian world didn’t know they existed until Sylvester Stallone spotted one in a Florence boutique in the early 1990s and wore it in Daylight. That film, and that watch (now known as the PAM 025 “Daylight”), sent demand from zero to significant almost overnight. The brand went to market publicly in 1993 and never looked back. The Luminor and Radiomir are the pillars: large cushion cases, sandwich dials with luminous Arabic numerals, a design language that’s immediately recognizable and deliberately polarizing. Panerai collectors are tribal in the best way. The community around the brand is one of the most active in watchmaking. Limited annual series drive serious secondary market activity. Either the aesthetic connects immediately, or it doesn’t.
