Rolex Submariner

Picture a dive watch. You're almost certainly picturing this one, or something built to look like it. Since 1953 the Submariner has been the template the rest of the industry quietly borrows from: a rotating bezel to track your time underwater, fat glowing markers you can read at depth, and water resistance that's genuinely overbuilt for the desk most of them live on. Somewhere along the way it outgrew the dive boat entirely. Now it's just as at home under a suit cuff or with a tux as it is in the water, which is a rare thing for any tool watch. You'll meet it with a date and without, in steel, two-tone, and gold, and the green ones have earned their own following, the "Kermit" and the "Hulk" among them. It's the watch that does everything and looks right doing it.
